Extreme Depth and Deceit – Dr Simon Mitchell

Next Thursday (May 7th) at 7:30pm, Dr Simon Mitchell will be presenting a lecture to the Auckland Medical History Society and the Auckland Hospital.

The talk will be on deep wreck diving to the Australina Hospital Ship Centaur, which sank on 14 May 1943 off the Birsbane coast. When Dr Mitchell and his companion dived to the wreck in 2002, it was the deepest wreck dive ever undertaken!

If you’re keen to head along and hear what he’s got to say, flick me an email on [email protected] for all the details.

Matauri Bay 2015

What’s pink, orange and purple and sleeps in the Cavalli Islands? The wreck of the Rainbow Warrior! Want to dive it? Come up to Matauri Bay for Easter!

It’s only a few days away now, our annual AUUC pilgrimage to Matauri Bay, right next to the Cavalli Islands and resting place of the Rainbow Warrior. We’re taking the club boat up for a WHOPPING 5 DAYS of diving at this awesome location. Aside from the Warrior, other dive sites include True Love Reef, Taheke Rock, TeapotĀ and Lorna’s Crack. We’ll be camping in the picturesque Matauri bay Holiday Park, right at the base of the hill which houses the memorial to the Rainbow Warrior.

Open to all experience levels, and all disciplines (SCUBA, freediving, snorkelling). This is normally the biggest AUUC trip of the year, and for good reason! Don’t miss out on this spectacular diving!

When: April 2-7
Where: Matauri Bay, northland (about 4-5 hours drive from Auckland)
